Responsibilities
Job Description
Assisting the Rig Operator with the Daily completion of pre-start checklists, monitoring oil & diesel levels of all machinery.
Assisting the Blaster to mark shot holes to be drilled according to Burden and Spacing.
Ensuring crest barricading is up to standard
Ensuring cones are removed and holes drilled to correct depth
Ensuring Drilling and Blasting are executed safely
Making sure adequate signage is placed at areas where drilling and blasting are taking place.
Making safe evacuations of quarry prior and during a blasting
Reporting any unsafe acts, conditions or incidents to Operator and Supervisor immediately
Requirements
Job Requirements
Grade 12 or Amended Senior Certificate or National Certificate Vocational Level 4 or
Technical Matric – N3 (4 technical subjects + 2 official languages)
Blasting Assistant Course.
Minimum 1 year as a Blasting Assistant in open cast mining.
Knowledge of Drill Rig operations
Understanding of Mine, Health and Safety Act
Understanding of Explosive Act requirements
Good interpersonal skills and communication skills
Good problem-solving skills
Basic decision-making skills
Must be declared medically fit after medical examination
